Welcome to Bushi Ryu Jujitsu Club

Sensei Andy PryceSensei Jimmy Pape & Sensei Paul Geoghegan Junior Class in Progress Display Team at Glyn Ceriog Summer Fete

Our club at Plas Madoc North Wales has been in existence for twenty-one years and has members of various ages and now includes a satellite club at the neighbouring town of Ruthin. The club is affiliated to the Bushido Jujitsu Academy International; the National Tutor Coach is Sensei James Pape 8th Dan and Chief Instructor Sensei Paul Geoghehan 8th Dan.

Our own club Instructor is Sensei Andy Pryce 5th Dan and under his leadership and club name Bushi Ryu (which translated means Warrior School of the gentle art) the group has flourished. The well-structured lessons create a relaxed safe and friendly environment while motivating students to hone their technical and physical skills in this highly respected martial art. Self discipline, respect for others and the building of self-confidence are also encouraged. Participation can start from as young as seven and is non-gender specific.

Jujitsu today has developed from its roots in Central Asia, travelling with Buddhist missionaries to China in 500 BC and onward to Japan in the 15th Century where it progressed further as a physical and mental discipline aided by the Buddhist monks. It was not until as late as 1890 that Jujitsu was introduced into the west and many martial arts practised today Aikido and Judo were evolved from the original art. The word Jujitsu has been translated in several ways as gentle art or the art of Science and Flexibility. Emphasis is based on the application of techniques rather than that of strength, combined with a developed ability to anticipate opponents and competitors.
